Scrap Iron Prices
Our iron prices from Chertsey, serving Surrey and London. These are our own prices, not UK averages.
Cast iron turns up in old column radiators, roll-top baths, manhole covers, stoves and machinery. It is heavy, so even a single radiator can weigh a significant amount, but like steel it is priced at a low rate per kilogram.
Many yards grade cast iron together with heavy ferrous scrap, while some quote it separately. The table below shows only grades where we have a checked record.
Iron prices
| Metal / grade | Price |
|---|---|
Heavy iron | £130 – £150 per tonne |
Light iron | £70 per tonne |
Mixed iron | £120 per tonne |
Final price depends on the grade, condition and weight of your metal.

Iron price FAQs
Are old cast iron radiators worth anything?
They are valued as scrap by weight unless they are restorable, in which case a reclamation dealer may pay more than a scrap yard.
Will a London scrap yard pay me in cash?
No. Under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013, licensed dealers in England and Wales cannot pay for scrap metal in cash. Expect a bank transfer or cheque, and bring photo ID and proof of address, which dealers are required to record.
