Methodology
Pricing methodology
How every figure on this site is collected, labelled and kept honest.
1. Collection
Prices are entered manually by an editor. There is no automated feed and no scraping. Each record links to a named source and stores the time it was checked and, where known, the date the source says the price took effect.
2. Our price list
The public price list shows one confirmed price for each metal grade. Prices are supplied by the business and entered manually; we do not invent missing figures.
3. Freshness
A record is “current” only if it is published and was verified within the last 14 days. After that it is shown as out of date, is never described as today’s price and is not used by the calculator until an editor re-checks the source.
4. Units
Prices are stored per kg or per tonne as the source gives them, and displayed in the appropriate unit. 1 tonne = 1,000 kg.
5. Why yard offers differ
Grading, contamination, quantity, transport and each yard’s costs and margin all change what you are offered. Our figures are reference points.
6. Corrections and history
Records are never silently overwritten: every change is stored in a history log, and incorrect records are corrected or withdrawn.
